Terms of Use
Last updated October 20, 2026
1. The service
Safe Potato ("the app") is an iPhone application that stores documents in an encrypted vault on your device and lets you send encrypted documents to other Safe Potato users. The app is provided by Kal ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms.
2. Your responsibility for your password and device
Your master password is never stored by the app or transmitted to us. If you forget it, or if you lose access to your device's Face ID or Touch ID, your documents cannot be decrypted by anyone, including us. You are responsible for remembering your password and for keeping backups of any document you cannot afford to lose. The auto-wipe feature, if you enable it, permanently destroys your vault after repeated failed unlock attempts; we cannot undo this.
3. Sharing
When you share a document with a contact, it is encrypted so that only that contact can open it and is held on our relay for up to 7 days or until collected. You are responsible for verifying that a contact is who you think they are before scanning their code. Once a recipient has received a document, they hold their own copy and we have no ability to retrieve or delete it from their device.
4. Subscriptions
Safe Potato Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription billed through your Apple ID, monthly or yearly, with a free trial for new subscribers of the length shown in the app and on the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase or at the end of the free trial. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. Your encrypted vault stays on your phone whether or not you are subscribed.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use the app to store or share content that is illegal in your jurisdiction, or to harass, threaten, or harm others. Because the app is designed so that we cannot see your content, we rely on you to use it lawfully.
6. Security
We use industry-standard, publicly audited cryptography (AES-256-GCM, Argon2id, P-256 key agreement) and Apple's Secure Enclave. No system is perfectly secure. Features such as jailbreak detection and screenshot shielding are best-effort protections and are not guarantees. You use the app at your own risk.
7. No warranty and limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data, loss of access to data, or any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Changes and termination
We may update the app and these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. We may discontinue the relay service with reasonable notice; your local vault is unaffected by this.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules.
